Michelle Obama and many public health advocates, the necessary attention was devoted to the epidemic of obesity in America. Many possible interventions have been raised, including healthy school meal programs, more opportunities for play and recreation, and less consumption of processed, poor quality food.
There is a simple idea, however, that barely gets the attention. It is something that parents can act on right now, without any special training or support from the Government and its offer to them every day! The solution is dinner family. How and where we eat may seem too simple to the huge problem of childhood obesity. However, the ritual of eating meals together as a family, either a parent to the table, or both, has been shown to greatly improve the healthy eating habits.
Dr. David Katz, the new editor of the journal of the obesity supported recently on this site that families (parents and children together) are being forgotten in the distant efforts to stop the trend of obesity in U.S. children. We are in agreement. Programs target primarily to schools and adults occasionally, but rarely we treat the social unit of the family of any consideration.
